Staff/Governors

Governors

Gusford is part of the Active Learning Trust. This is a multi academy trust and there is an Active Learning Trust Board who place a local governing body in each school to oversee the leadership of the school.

The Local Governing Body acts in accordance with the scheme of delegation agreed by the ALT Board.  This scheme sets out what the Trust board asks the Local Governing Body to carry out on its behalf. In essence the role of the Local Governing Body (which should then underpin the work of the LGB) can be summarised as follows: 

  • Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction; 
  • Holding the headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils, and the performance management of staff;
  • Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent.

c/o Gusford Primary School

Sheldrake Drive, Ipswich. IP2 9LQ

I became a Trust Governor in January 2016. My career in teaching spans over 40 years, initially teaching English and Drama in High Schools. After a short break to enjoy my  own family I returned to Primary Education as a KS2 teacher, where my career continued to develop. I retired after 9 years as a Headteacher  and, during the last four years, I have enjoyed the opportunity to develop interests outside of teaching as well as making more time for my family. As a parent and grandparent, I have continued to maintain a belief that children have a natural curiosity and, with the right encouragement and support, a love of learning. I am delighted to be part of the Gusford School Governing Body, in particuar the EYFS Governor and I look forward to developing my role within the school.

I have been a Trust Governor at Gusford for several years.

I became a school governor because I wanted to give back to society the skills and knowledge that I have acquired over the years.    I have grandchildren, and nothing gives me more pleasure than when I have been able to help them in learning, and I can extend this help to others.

As well as attending the full governing body meetings I also chair the Personnel Committee and I am the Safeguarding Governor. I am also the governor who attends the School Council meetings, where I find that the children ask some very challenging questions but the meetings are always very rewarding.

I have been a Parent Governor at Gusford since 2013. I became a governor because I wanted to make a positive contribution to my children’s education. Additionally I hoped to utilise my skills and attributes as a Local Government Manager to enhance the performance at Gusford whilst also learning new skills.

As well as attending Full Governing Body meetings I am a Health & Safety Governor for the school and the current Chair of the Finance & Property committee. If I can be of any help please do not hesitate to contact me via the school.

Trust Governor

Staff Governor

Teacher Governor

I became a Trust Governor in November 2016.

I wanted to become a school Governor because I wanted the invaluable experience that comes with helping to run a school. I have a son at the school and being able to positively contribute towards his education and future is a great opportunity.

As well as attending Full Governing Body meetings I am also on the Personnel committee and look forward to developing my role to be able to assist the school in years to come.

I have been a Parent Governor since January 2016.  I became a governor because I feel passionately about children having the best opportunities that they can have. I want to make a difference and help impact their lives in a positive way by making Gusford the best it can be.  I have been running a local sports coaching business in Suffolk since 2003 which gives children opportunities to lead an active life and play sport, which is a passion of mine.

I have been at Gusford since 2013 as a teaching assistant. I have become a governor because I want to contribute in giving the children at Gusford the best opportunity to succeed in life.

Janet has been working at Gusford since April 2015 as the Alternative Provision Teacher and has recently taken on the role of Teacher Governor. She has more than 20 years teaching experience in both mainstream and special education. She has been a governor in two other educational settings and is looking forward to supporting the governing body at Gusford.
