Dear Parents/ Carers,
h January 2014
We hope that you all enjoyed a relaxing Christmas holiday and wish you all a Happy New Year!
We are now beginning the Spring Term and have attached an overview of the term which details the topics your child will be learning about over the next few weeks.
We would like to ask that you continue to encourage your child to read as frequently as possible and record any comments in your child’s Reading Record Book. Please also remember that it may be that an older sibling, grandparent or relative may enjoy hearing your child read and their comments can also be recorded.
We would remind you that your child’s Reading Record Book and reading books should be in school every day as we will continue to attempt to hear your child read individually at least once a week.
The children are encouraged to inform us when they need to change one or both of their reading books. There is no expectation of how often this should be but your child will benefit from regularly reading with an adult as often as possible. Please ask your child to let their teacher know if they need to change their books and we will arrange for these to be changed at the earliest opportunity.
The Reading Reward initiative will also continue this term. A letter will be shortly forwarded to you in this respect.
The days that the children will be doing PE are unchanged this term and are as follows;
Badgers (Mrs Rose): Mondays & Wednesdays
Foxes (Mrs Tapscott/ Mrs Urquhart): Mondays & Fridays Otters (Miss Raven): Mondays & Tuesdays
However, children should have their full PE kit in school all week as there are sometimes occasions when PE days need to change or we undertake extra sessions.
We have found that, on occasions, children sometimes have elements of their kit missing (for example trainers or plimsoles) which are essential if we do PE outdoors. We obviously want all children to participate in all PE lessons and with only limited spare PE kit this can sometimes cause problems. We would therefore kindly ask that you check your child has their complete PE kit each week.
We would remind you that children’s PE kits should include a white T-shirt, dark shorts and plimsoles or trainers and also some tracksuit bottoms and an outdoor jumper to help keep them a little warmer when we do PE outside. We would also ask that all of their PE kit be named to prevent kit being lost, mislaid or confused with someone else’s.
Children with long hair should have it tied up or bring a band to tie it up with and all earrings and jewellery should be removed. If your child finds it difficult to take out their own earrings it may be better to remove these before school on the days your child has PE, or alternatively ensure your child has some tape or plasters to cover their earrings to prevent injury.
We always welcome, and appreciate additional parental support in our classrooms! As you may be aware we require all of our regular helpers to hold a CRB check. If you hold a CRB certificate and you think you would be interested in helping in your child’s class, please let your child’s teacher know. You are always welcome!
Last term, we had fantastic support for our Literacy Workshop and our Learning Together – Healthy Eating afternoons. We hope to arrange another parent workshop this term which we hope you will be able to attend - details to follow!
We hope this helps provides an initial overview of the term to come and thank you for your continued support.
